The stress of living in this era requires anchoring and centering ourselves in order to keep ourselves healthy and happy. From every direction we are bombarded with forces that tend to draw us away from ourselves.
We can be left feeling like a battered boat on an angry sea — losing touch with what we really want, really believe, and ultimately, with who we really are.
A daily practice of some spiritual nature, such as prayer, meditation, or body-mind centering can help keep your heart and mind open to possibility — even to miracles – and give you support and encouragement when the daily trails of modern life threaten to overwhelm you.
Tips for getting started:
  • Ground yourself every morning. Take a few minutes to get quiet. You cannot center yourself until you get still.
  • Track your breath. Take a few deep breaths and notice how it moves throughout your body. Be present in those moments.
  • Carve out time to pray or meditate regularly.
  • Set your intentions for each day.
  • Look for the good. Be grateful for the good things and people in your life.
  • Affirm yourself. Remind yourself that you have greatness. You are here to accomplish something that the universe needs.
  • Stop thinking negative about yourself. When you notice a negative thought, pause! Replace it with a positive one.
Take time to listen to your inner voice. Our bodies are wise. Learning to cultivate the ability to listen to our inner voice by simply taking time alone to do something that brings us closer to nature, to our own inner spirit — gardening, walking in the woods, relaxing in the park, or even settling reflectively into a welcoming corner of a coffee shop can help us to become more self-aware.
Getting quiet may take more time than you might hope initially but keep an open heart and mind. The process of coming home to yourself will be well worth it.
